I've just gotten my first job interview in over 10 years and I'm freaking out. I need advice on how to do get through this.
So I've been a SAHM for a while now and I've worked independently as a house cleaner, house sitter, pet sitter ect. The whole time I've been a SAHM. I also worked for a church for a few years as their cleaner however that job ended poorly through no fault of my own but as I was leaving I was told I could no longer use their name on my resume. I applied to a cleaning job at a hospital while I still worked for the church and recently they have reached out to ask for a job interview. I don't know how the heck do I explain why I no longer can use the church as a reference and why my updated resume has that I was an independent contractor at an unnamed location. Its probably gonna look terrible and I know the church did it out of spite to nuke my chances of ever finding another job. They even stole money from my paychecks and that was why I quit.
I did several practice interviews online already but I can't figure out how to answer about my work history. I don't know if there's a safe way to say I was forced to quit because the pastor lied and completely threw me under the bus to cover up his lying. My guess is that I'll just say I was laid off due to financial reasons and due to a conflict of interest I no longer feel comfortable using them as a reference.
I badly need this job and this is the first interview I've secured in a long time and I really don't want to mess this up.
