Why NEET has become such a sorry state of affairs, paper leaks, drops after drops, suiciudes...etc etc??
Hello Friends..My heart pains to see so many youngsters losing their life as they could not clear NEET. The number of candidates is increasing year after year and so is increasing despodency of this examination and now going even into medical profession as a career. Sensing this as a business opportunity private medical colleges have made their fees run somewhere from Rs. 90 Lacs to Rs. 1.5 Cr, and what you get after that is a salary of Rs. 60-70 K per month. It's a vicious circle for students or parents, and in desperation some of the parents fall into crime of buying leak papers, while students commit suicides. Why this sorry state of affairs, and can it be corrected.???
In my view, yes there is a solution as the root cause is only lack of any comparable (as seen by students) options if one does not clear NEET to become MBBS, and reason of lack of alternate options is that maths is dropped!!!!
A student who is scoring 60% to 70% in this entrance has rank somewhere around 2-3 Lacs, means he is a failure. Imagine a briliiant student scoring 70% in entrance exam and still declared failure, while we used to celebrate 75% in board exams as distinction. if you even google for options after NEET it throws you things like Bsc, BPT, Nursing, Pharma, Homeo, Veterinary. Sorry to say, but when a student dreaming to become doctor evalutes this against MBBS, he finds himself to be literally doomed. Not that these career options are bad, but students or parenta dio not find it as per potential and wishes of the student. Student compares himself with those who are doing BTech and would be earning 16-17 Lacs per annum after 4 years of time. But he cant sit for Engineering entrance, since he has no maths!!!!!!! Then he finds himself doomed again when he finds he is even not eligible for many courses in IISER, NISER, and even BBA from DU!!!! He then looks for ecomomics as career, sorry maths needed there too and he is ineligible...this poor fellow knows more maths as he is being doing differentiation, integration, coordinate geometry, trigno, but officially he is maths illiterate!!!!
He is only left with Botany or zoology to live his life with.
This takes him to decide to appear again, again, again and again.....and this vicious circle starts. I saw a number of posts on social media, calling all abuses for NTA. It is not NTA much at fault here, trust me I am not defending them, sheer size of people in queue due to this road block, is what is at fault.
Suggesttion for students and parents:
- No Medical Aspirant should drop maths, never make this mistake. You are much better than people clearing JEE. But because of too high competition in NEET and no maths you all end up studying BA/BSC/BDS or pharma etc which somewhere you do not like.
If you have maths, you can appear for JEE, (if not NEET) and can easily become an engineer and earn millions with same preparations or little more.
- Always apply for following exams the year you are appearing for NEET:
IPMAT - This exam will straight way take you to IIMs, that even engineers want to go.
IISER & NISER - These exams can easily get you into institutes which are of level of IITs and AIIMs, and can launch you into International career.
CLAT / AILET - This exam, with little prepartion can make you do BALLB from institutes like NLUs which are equivalent to IITs/AIIMs
IISC - Against an institute equal to IIT/IIM
CUET - Required for doing multiple types of graduation courses, Always take admission immediately after first attempt, trust me by not much changes between full drop and partial drop hence always take partial drop. This option will ensure, your career path sees no breaks.
JEE/ BITS - Why not? You medical aspirants deserve best of engineering colleges also. It should be a choice to you as you studied both Maths and Biology.
CET of IPU - dont miss this, mere CUET is not enough.
Add to this if any more such exams are there which are equally reputed.
While many of the above exams are for non maths also, but Keeping Maths opens to you a world of opportunities and you would all agree otherwise also too you learn calculus, trigno, coordinate geometry, binomials, probability (genetics questions) etc. Why lose these opportunities?
Give him a solid kick whosoever suggests you to drop maths. Infact keeping Maths will ensure a good score in physics too which is becoming so vital these days!!! remeber exam of 2025???
These exams can give you an equally good or i would say even better career as that of a doctor.
Most students dont do this and end up only thinking of taking a full drop and this is how this number reaches 22 lacs - 24 lacs due to students falling in vicious circle of drops.
- Never take full drop. Always join a graduation. Doing early graduation prepares you for far better exams such as UPSC/PSC/Bank Exams/PSU Exams/ which is straight gateway to a civil servant job/ other reputed jobs if you clear. Give NEET a sincere one drop attempt. if not NEET, still you would have two years left in graduation, to prepare for UPSC or other exams after graduation and any of the above exams which i mentioned about. You all are so talented you will definately get at least 3-4 of them and even if you do not you have saved precious years of life and can come stronger in graduation level competitions.
Trust me your NEET preparation (even if you dont qualify that rat race) makes you much better for graduation level exams also.
Remember, Only a partial drop if at all.
With a graduation also you can prepare for drop. You are far less stressed and in much better state of mind and stakes are not very high.
Suggestion of Govt:
- Make Maths Mandatory: If Govt sincerely wishes to bring out this country from this hell, don't let Biology students drop maths. Let them drop computer science, physical edication, IT..these things can be learnt later, but dont make them drop Mathematics. It should be a compulsory subject for all science students including those taking Biology. You can prevent multiple suicides by doing this reform. You will find candidates taking multiple drops decreasing in 2-3 years of times. While students themselves should take maths but some will still drop it thinking it will help them in NEET preparation, but at what risks. A 15 year old student is not mature to understand these risks which he realises only when he is trapped. Here Govt should play role and bring notification asap.
- Ensure Fee of Private Colleges are restricted: When private engineering colleges can teach engineering at much lower costs why medical colleges should charge so high fee. Govt should ensure all private medical colleges keep their fee not more than Rs. 2-3 lacs per year which is in commensuration with earning after doing MBBS, i.e. Rs. 60 - 70 K per month.
I think these two structural changes will bring our country out of this despodency and gloominess around exam called NEET.
