My first experience of having a surgery in Korea

Hi Reddit!! I finally made it to Korea!! And honestly, one of the things I was most excited about was exploring plastic surgery options haha Korea is famous for having that perfect balance of quality and affordability, right?? So I figured if I was ever going to do it, this was the place. The problem? There are SO MANY CLINICS. I telling you, they are literally everywhere🙃🙃

Before coming, I booked consultations at a few well-known, highly advertised clinics because I thought “They’re famous for a reason, right?” To be honest it didn't feel as right as I expected….. At some clinics, even though I specifically booked a consultation with the surgeon, I only got to talk to the doctor for literally 2–3 minutes. I just kept wondering how anyone could create a personalized surgical plan after barely looking at my face?? At some clinics, much of the consultation focused on discussing additional procedures, which wasn't really what I was hoping for??

As a Taiwanese living in the U.S., I don’t have many Korean friends, and I needed either English or Chinese support throughout the process. So I spent some time researching again, booking consultations, and visiting clinics that specialized in facial surgery and lifting procedures I was interested in. And honestly, most of them felt very similar…

After several consultations, I narrowed it down to two clinics. I ultimately chose Ilchi because I felt the consultation style matched what I was looking for. From the first consultation, both the coordinator and the surgeon actually listened to my concerns instead of rushing me through the surgery appointment. My biggest concern was facial sagging. My cheeks had started to descend over time, and I felt like my entire face looked tired and heavy no matter how much skincare I used. After examining my face, the doctor recommended a Ponytail Lift because he thought it would address the areas that bothered me most.

I’ll be honest I was SO SO nervous about scars😭😭😭😭😭 But the doctor explained where the incisions would be placed and reassured me that they would be extremely discreet. Now that I’ve gone through the procedure, I can honestly say that was one of my biggest surprises. The incisions are incredibly well hidden, and most people would never know I had surgery unless I told them.

The recovery process was also much more comfortable than I expected. TThey also offered some post-op treatments, including bruise management and an oxygen chamber session, which I personally found helpful during recovery. As for the results, what I love most is that I still look like myself, but just fresher, more lifted, and more rested. My cheeks look higher, my jawline appears cleaner, and my face feels more balanced overall.

If you’ve been thinking about a lift but are worried about looking overdone or having visible scars, don’t let that fear stop you from researching your options. Now I’m really happy I took the time to visit multiple clinics before making a decision. Looking back, I'm glad I visited several clinics before making my decision because it helped me feel more confident💛💛

***I know my eyes are asymmertical , there is no need to address it, thank you!
