Asiret
Hello everyone,
I would like to share some important information about the Eşîreta Komas (also known as Eşîra Komas or the Komas tribe).
The Eşîreta Komas is an influential, armed, and historically rooted Kurdish tribe in Northern Iraq (Kurdistan Region), with a history dating back more than 200 years, reaching into the early 19th century.
Geographical Presence and Sphere of Influence:
The main area and historical presence of the tribe extends across the strategically important triangle of cities:
• Slemany (Sulaimaniyah): The social and political center.
• Kirkuk: A historically and economically significant metropolis.
• Chamchamal (Çemçemal): A city regarded as a connecting point and traditionally shaped by deeply rooted tribal structures.
Social Status and Structure:
Within its region, the Eşîreta Komas is considered highly influential and firmly established locally. The tribe maintains its own armed structures, which in the politically dynamic areas between Slemany and Kirkuk have traditionally been an important factor for community protection and independence.
Among the population of these three cities, the name is widely recognized as a symbol of regional strength and tradition.
Originally, the family was known as “Bareck,” in honor of the son of Komas (the son of the tribal chief). Later, the tribe became known as “Komas.”
Additional information, historical details, or reports from the region are very welcome in the comments
