Pink Floyd

I’m certainly not a rock fan or anything. Growing up, my idol was George Michael, and I listen to all genres of music.

I’d always known about Pink Floyd, but apart from Another Brick in the Wall (which is an absolute banger), I’d never really listened to them. I just assumed that was probably their best song, so I never bothered diving any deeper.

For some reason, I started listening to their music last month and.. wow. This is absolutely sublime.

I’m not even listening to the albums in order, just picking songs at random.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought Time was their peak. Then last week, Us and Them hit me like a ton of bricks. What a beautiful song.

And today I heard Have a Cigar. Good lord. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever heard another song quite like it.

The lyrics are badass, and the whole track has so much swagger and attitude. I feel every beat of that song, and I can’t help but tap along.

Right now, I can’t imagine anything topping it, but then again, I said the same thing after Time and Us and Them, so who knows?

What a band. Genuinely feels like I’m discovering peak music 50 years late.

Remortgaging with an unemployed partner - stay with Nationwide or switch?

We’re coming to the end of our two-year fixed mortgage deal in September and I’d really appreciate some advice.
Here are the details:

Purchase price: £475k
Current Nationwide valuation: £460k
Outstanding mortgage balance: £416k
My salary: £100k
Other debt: approximately £60k, split roughly 50/50 between my partner and me

We took out our mortgage with Nationwide on a 5.29% fixed rate, and the new rate they’ve offered us is 5.13%. If we stay with them, there are no affordability checks.

I’m fairly sure I could get a better rate by remortgaging with another lender, but I’m concerned about the affordability checks. My partner isn’t currently working, so I’m not sure whether I’d qualify for the mortgage based on my income alone.

Is it possible for me to be the sole borrower on the mortgage while my partner remains on the title deeds?

Given our circumstancese, would you stick with Nationwide to avoid the affordability checks, or is it worth seeing what other lenders might offer?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
