Does Japanese men paying for dates mean that he's interested ?

I met my Japanese bf of 27 yo, last week when I was in Japan. I saved a lot of money for this trip and since my bf is not working I told him that i'm okay about paying for our dates when we'll meet. But I noticed that in restaurants or other places it's always the men that pays for girls. So maybe i'm just stupid + he seems to not consider me at all. When I asked him if he likes me he told me that he hates those questions. The whole week we spent together, we almost didn't talk. Or very few conversation. We were mostly walking and spending time in train. He looked at his phone A LOT, but it's maybe because he was searching for the locations so that's okay. However he never proposed to pay once, when my card declined once, and he had to pay for us at the cafe he looked mad so I gave him his money back after withdrawal at ATM. He doesn't but I saw he had enough money in his wallet, so he could have buy me one thing at least. Maybe it's because he got used that I pay for everything. + I paid for love hotel room+ sex toys HE choosed by myself. I don't care about money but I just want to feel loved. But he was so cold. Has anyone experienced the same situation?
