CAT aspirant trying to transition to GATE. Need advice
I m NIT Mizoram 2025 Civil Engineering passout.I was forced to take civil branch in my college by my parents so this made me hate civil branch and I never genuinely enjoyed learning it. So I decided to go for MBA instead of Mtech. I secured a core civil company placement offer but I decided not to go there as I would be stuck in that job and would not find time to study. Here are my score of CAT: Scored 55%ile(1-2 months of prep) in 2024 CAT and 65%ile in 2025(5-6 month of prep along with a gap after graduation in july 2025). Now after scoring such a low percentile I trying to accept the fact that I am not made for this exam. I have a year gap and after searching for job for 5-6 month, I finally got selected in a company, but this whole job hunting and cat exam phase has made me hate the private sector and I am more inclined to government jobs/stable jobs. I am thinking to quit cat and prepare for gate though I almost no knowledge in my core branch. As of now, I have no intention of doing mtech even if its from top iit, I am drawn more towards psu jobs/other jobs that we get after scoring good marks in gate. Is my decision correct or I should again prepare for CAT exam(I am GEM candidate with 0 work ex to be counted for cat 2026)? What will be my success probability there provided i study 3-4 hrs for a exam daily with a job?
