Newbie advice
My center is starting an afterschool program and they've asked me to help run it! I am brand new to the Montessori setting, less than 2 months in, but I have the most open availability among all of the staff which is why I agreed to take on this new program. It would be for primary and elementary ages. I have some ideas of how to run it but was wondering if I could get some advice and feedback on my ideas. I should preface by saying my director has mentioned having a little more structure to this program and he is embracing a more "monte-sometime" approach, as in not following the typical daily work cycle schedule. Ideally we would have weekly themes (clouds, volcanoes, fossils, butterflies, trees, etc) and each week I would offer a craft project, coloring pages, books, and a type of sensory activity that all fits with the weeks theme. The children will have the choice of all of those themed activities as well as free play all week and can choose to do whatever activity on whatever day. Would that work well do you think? Do you have an afterschool program run in the same way and does it work for you? Thanks in advance!
