CPD is worse than the noise they're trying to abate.
I live on MLK. There's some kind of bar or something (down by JJ's I think) that, I guess, parties till pretty late sometimes. At some point at least once a week, CPD comes by to shut it down and disperse the crowd. This started about 6-8 weeks ago.
The first time, they were just yelling at the crowd via the loudspeakers. That was bad enough. Now, a bunch of cruisers show up and just sit there with the sirens and whoopers going full-blast for 10 minutes or more, at 2-3am.
I'm used to late-night revelry... this area is covered in bars, it's popular with the 20-somethings, and we get everything from street festivals to concerts, protests to strikes... it's a busy downtown area. Noise is a part of life in the city. We even catch sirens from fire trucks all the time.
But I swear to God, CPD just blaring sirens at 2am is worse than anything else we get. At least the normal sirens pass quickly. The loud-as-fuck cars that drag race down MLK and rattle the pictures off my wall are bad, but they also (usually) pass by quick. Or you'd hope, with all that noise.
But just SITTING there, laying on the siren... I can't even hear the bar or the people at it. And I'm pretty sure we're one of the closest residentials to it. But those fucking sirens...
There has got to be a better way...
