Exudative vs Transudative fluid in drained fluid

Is there anyone on here whose fluid in their thoracentesis (or other drain) have an exudative type? If so, have you identifed the source? My understanding is that pleural fluid that is from the liver is transudate and exudate is from a different problem. My son's thoracentesis is now every other week and the fluid comes back really fast (within days). Every time they test it, it is exudate and all other fluid tests are "normal".
