Blown/leaky caps on Tannoy TS12
Freebie on FB marketplace. I don't know anything about electronics but enough to know capacitors may still be live and could kill me. 😎
Sub in excellent condition. Removed the sub to take a look inside and from what i researched, the caps looked like they leaked, some of it over the board.
Who knows if anything else is fried. Worth getting it looked at? The caps look like they can be ordered online for less than $10.
My other option is remove all electronics and turn into passive sub. Only issue is what external amp to get to drive the 4ohm 12in subwoofer. The plate amp on these is rated at 500RMS
I don't think its worth spending hundreds of dollars on an amp is it? Was hoping a Fosi audio mono sub amp could do thr trick, but they are rated well below 300w peak.
What should i do? Offer it up to the next guy? Get an estimate? Or try to run it as a passive with external amp under $200
