Mazda CX-30 vs Honda HRV
TLDR; torn between the HRV and CX30…but also the CX30 vs CX5. in terms of pricing, I can afford a new HRV or a pre-owned Mazda (2022-23). any opinions, pros and cons to consider when buying? this is my first car I am buying myself after driving a hyundai accent for the last 8 years. My main priorities are reliability (1), safety (2), and value (3).
I am about to buy a car and am completely torn. I test drove the Mazda 30 / 5s and the Honda HRV. I will be moving to the DC meteo area and need a good ”commuter” vehicle that is practical, reliable, and good on gas.
Mazda CX 30 - sporty look (which I love more than I thought), feels luxury. drives very smoothly. however, it feels very cramped. i don’t need a “family friendly” car, but it felt a lot smaller than I imagined. this might be beneficial as the area I am moving has high population density and parking could be a concern. I’ve noticed others complain about the LACK of rear space...I felt a little claustrophobic while test driving, but I’m so used to my hyundai accent that doesn’t even have a center console 😭. I would be buying a pre-owned 2023 carbon edition 25k miles...around $260/month.
CX-5 - felt like a “mom” car…but I didn’t feel cramped at all. would be an adjustment going from such a small sedan to a larger SUV. again, appreciated all the cool tech features but im not factoring those into my decision. The larger size concerns me for the city area I will be in. pre-owned 2023 select package with 35k miles, but $250/month
Honda HRV - also drove smooth, felt a little small BUT roomier than the CX30. not as many cool features but I’ve always been told Hondas are some of the most reliable and affordable. I could afford a new 2026 edition for the same price as the CX30. aesthetics wise, I liked the Mazdas better. but again, I’m most concerned with reliability and safety…I’ve had so many issues with my Hyundai (3 new batteries in the last 2 years…) That I want to avoid as much as possible because I will be living on my own 3 hours from my parents without the ability to borrow their cars if needed.
ANY ADVICE, PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, OR OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER ARE APPRECIATED!!!
