Question about adding a second dog
Hello Pyrenees people,
I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and how it worked out for you.
My Pyr mix is 2.5, and he loves other dogs. I’ve had him since 6 months old and have done everything under the sun to make sure he is happy and healthy. He’s very dog focused. We have play dates with friends’ dogs often. So no worries about adding a new pup as far as that’s concerned.
My concern is that he’s a very aloof guy who chooses to spend all day long in the yard (except for summertime). I’ve had him for 2 years and he’s been very difficult to bond with, and boy have I tried. He loves to sleep outside and chase squirrels all day. We take two long hikes a day, but he wants to lounge in the yard the rest of the time. He does not check in with me at all throughout the day. This has been the loneliest dog experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve had dogs for 25 years. I am very worried that a new puppy (will def not be a Pyr) will do what puppies do and follow his lead. I would be heartbroken to have TWO dogs that spend all day outdoors with very little desire to be with me.
My friends assure my that the new dog (a more people-focused breed) will not behave like this.
I’m so ready to feel that strong connection with a dog again and am very much looking forward to a new pup.
