Difficulty in Meteor Satellite reception
I am from the southern part of India and I’m trying to receive METEOR M2-4 using an RTL-SDR Blog V4 with the stock V-dipole antenna from the kit.
Since I don’t have rooftop access, my only option is to place the antenna near a window. The window has a decent view of the sky and I keep it slightly open during passes. I’ve been trying for the past 2 days but I still haven’t received any visible METEOR signal in SDR++ around 137.9 MHz.
I can receive nearby airband and ham repeater signals and FM Broadcast clearly, to some extent at night times I also can receive shortwave signals from other countries too! so the SDR and antenna are working to some extent.
A few details:
- RTL-SDR Blog V4
- Stock V-dipole adjusted for ~137 MHz
- Using SDR++, SatDump
- Gain around 38–42 dB, mostly 39.2dB
- For Satdump, FFT max set to -50, fft min set to -100
- Antenna placed horizontally in v shape near window during passes
Could the window/indoor placement be the main issue, or am I missing something else?. Because the window has clear visibility towards the sky and i am in the second floor.
Also, are there any good test satellites/beacons/telemetry satellites that are easier to receive so I can verify my setup before trying METEOR again?
Thanks in advance!
