Is there a world where @Arsenal end up with both Vinicius and Alvarez in the team this season? Call me delusional, but I think it’s possible and that will be the ultimate statement of intent by this club.

Arsenal didn’t need another expensive squad option they needed a genuine game-changing, marquee signing capable of elevating the starting XI.

On the left, is Rogers better than Martinelli? Maybe, but only marginally. He offers better ball retention and end product, but lacks Martinelli’s explosive pace. That’s not the level of upgrade Arsenal should be paying a premium for. A younger Trossard certainly puts Rodgers on the bench .

In midfield, does he start ahead of Ødegaard, Rice, Eze or a fully fit Zubimendi? I don’t think so. Havertz and Myles Lewis-Skelly are at least debatable, but that’s the point, you’re debating a rotation player, not an undisputed starter.

So why spend £100m+ on someone who doesn’t clearly improve your strongest XI?

Elite teams win titles by adding elite difference-makers, not by paying a premium for squad players .

I would have love to see Rodger in the Red and White but absolutely not for that outrageous price.

Am seriously relieved that we didn’t break the transfer record trying to sign Rodger. I spent the past week arguing against this signing and am glad those in charge of the affairs of the club felt same. We have player of similar qualities and for Christ sake he’s not a left winger. That’s what we desperately need now, not another over hyped and over priced midfielder. Good riddance.
