I am happy that Disney is protecting families and most importantly children. The fact that this massive park with hundreds of thousands of families exists and there are never reports of kidnappings or anything horrible like that... it's impressive and great.

That said, the Disneyland plainclothes or ground units ruined the parks for me. They are quite literally all over the place. All of them using the private messenger app Signal and they will follow you around and take pictures of you/report on what you're doing if you're deemed "a threat".

For me - I was not a threat, but I had a glass of wine at the Blue Bayou. My girlfriend did not finish her drink so before we left, I downed her glass. We then went shopping for a hoodie for her. I understand that drinking and then immediately shopping can look bad... but I noticed a cast member take a photo of me and as I glanced over to her... she put her phone down and looked flustered. (There is a LOT more to this story but for sake of length... whatever).

A few months later on another visit - my party and I was followed by a homeless woman which massively triggered my girlfriends PTSD. We privately told a security officer (white uniform, hat) that we were being followed. Next thing I know a plainclothes woman comes and sits on the bench near us. I glance over at her phone -- she's using Signal and communicating on a group chat. Sure enough, an officer comes through and then walks backstage to change into a plainclothes outfit... and follows her to then escort her out. Now, its impressive that they did it so discreetly and the initial officer was extremely professional and kind to tell us that the woman was no longer in the park which allowed my girlfriend to calm down... but this just further confirmed how many eyes are in the park.

If you're someone who values your privacy or is overwhelmed by large crowds and hyper-observant, probably worth not visiting the magic. It gets creepy when you see how much you are surveiled.
