Hi yall. Registration for Waco 70.3 is open and I’m highly interested in signing up. I’m leaning towards registering but have a couple questions.

- is 5 months REALLY enough time to train?
- gear. where can I get race/training gear and not break my bank account.
- how do I set up a training plan

Regarding my physical fitness/experience, I’ve only ran a half marathon before and it was rough (2:30, but to be fair I literally did it almost 0 training and coming off a knee injury). I’ve been running around 15-20 miles a week starting February and as of right now I could honestly finish a half marathon right around 2 hours.

As for swimming, I used to swim competitively in club and HS. I only started swimming again 2 weeks ago, and today I did a benchmark 1.2 miles straight to see where I’m at and finished at 38 minutes and felt pretty good. I’m also aware open water swimming is a lot different so that’ll be fun to figure out.

Absolutely 0 experience cycling besides knowing how to ride a bike lol. I got a road bike of FB marketplace for $80 the other day but that’s about it.

I think this is relevant, I’ve also been lifting weights for almost 3 years now. I consider myself above average in overall strength but nothing crazy impressive. Basically strength training isn’t new to me.

So yea. I’m aware if I go slow enough I could probably finish a 70.3 just fine, but the competitive part of me wants a somewhat impressive time. Thoughts?
