I have a concern about my upcoming PTS medical.
I’m currently 4 weeks into my PTS course and my medical assessment is next week. In February, I was diagnosed with BPD and PTSD by my psychiatrist after being under the care of the Home Treatment Team for 8 weeks. I was discharged around 8 weeks ago.
Although I’m in a much more stable position now and continuing treatment through counselling and medication (currently 200mg quetiapine daily, which was increased this week), I’m worried I may not pass the medical. The short time since my discharge and diagnosis, as well as the recent medication increase, may suggest I’m not yet considered fully stable.
My concern is that if I fail the medical, I won’t be able to continue the course or work near live rail, which would effectively stop me progressing altogether. I haven’t disclosed my condition yet, but I plan to do so this week.
Does anyone know what the likely outcome might be in a situation like this? Is deferral a possibility?
I also worry that even if I do pass the medical, finding a sponsor with my diagnosis could still be very difficult.
At this point I’m unsure whether to continue pursuing this path or return to self-employment as a plasterer.
