Fenix 7 Pro Mapping Capability Question
I am in the market for my first Garmin watch, coming from an Apple Watch. I have read from several posts that the Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar is currently one of the best value options.
I am mainly interested in outdoor tracking capabilities like trail running, hiking, and skiing. One of the main driving factors for me was the routable map capability on the Fenix models. I would like to be able to create a map in CalTopo or an equivalent service and then download the route to my watch to be able to use it for navigation.
I have recently found this link on a semi-unrelated post that this capability may only be reserved for Fenix 8 models (See Garmin supported devices link below).
Does anyone have recommendations for using CalTopo with a Fenix 7 Pro, or would this type of mapping be exclusively on the 8th generation Fenix models?
The 47mm F7 models, the F8 AMOLED, and the Solar models have become closer in price, so I am wondering if it’s justifiable to spend an extra $150 for a newer model, especially if the mapping capability is only found on the F8s.
