Hey everyone, I'm an HSC Legal Studies tutor based in Sydney and I'm putting together my tutoring approach for the year. Before I do, I genuinely want to hear from students about what's actually hard, not just what the syllabus says is hard.

Whether you're in Prelim or HSC, what do you find yourself stuck on most?

  • Understanding the content (cases, legislation, concepts)
  • Essay writing and structuring responses
  • Knowing how to actually practice effectively
  • Past papers — timing, technique, or just not knowing where to start

No wrong answers. Even just a one-word topic (Crime, Human Rights, Family Law etc.) is helpful.

For context: I scored 92 in HSC Legal Studies, consistently above 95% in assessments throughout the year, and got 100% on the Crime topic specifically, so I have a pretty clear picture of what the exam rewards. Just want to make sure my teaching actually targets what students need rather than what I assume they need.
