Accutane / Isotretinoin
I wanted to share this post to show the results of my accutane journey as it maybe helpful for those that are thinking about using accutane or have severe adult acne.
Back History: I have been suffering with adult acne for 7 years, I thought it was my due to my diet so I have over the years tried many diets for long periods of eg. no sugars, no carbs, vegan and none of them worked.
I also spent a lot of money buying and trying different creams and lotions retinol, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid and the tretinoin cream version just to name a few and again none of them seemed to work.
I also spent years going to the doctor where they prescribed me Doxycycline again I did not see any results.
I spent hours reading through reddit forums and the internet to try and find a cure and I remember reading a small post stating "don't waste your time and money just get accutane" and I can honestly say that I wish I had read that post earlier in life.
I went to my doctor and I was put on a 6 month program of 30mg a day.
Picture: I have added a picture of my results the first column is before the program started, second column 3 months in and third column is after completion.
Tips: USE SUNSCREEN/SUNBLOCK spf 50 and a moisturiser and take a table spoon of peanut butter with your tablets to help digest the medication.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser I used cerave hydrating cleanser.
Get vaseline or lip balm as your lips will get very dry.
Side effects: I didn't get a big purge like others have experienced I just had a few minor breakouts during my first two months but they would disappear after a week or so.
I read a lot about accutane causing depression but the opposite happened to me I have actually gained a lot more confidence as I am not constantly thinking about my skin and my appearance I also go out more now as I don't worry about waking up to a new outbreak of acne and having to track everything I eat and not eating certain foods because I would be worried about the it causing me acne now I eat anything I want.
During my accutane journey my skin did get very dry so I would moisturise sometimes twice a day. My lips would get very dry all the time sometimes they would bleed and crack but if you make sure you carry vaseline or lip balm you will be fine.
My skin routine is very simple now I use a cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen everyday whereas before I had a whole routine of various products.
I hope this post helps someone as accutane has been the only thing that helped me and I am very happy with the results. Good luck.
