How do you guys handle "window shoppers" and people asking for free estimates just to ghost you?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been talking to a few local service businesses lately, and a common frustration keeps coming up: people calling in, asking a million questions for a free estimate, and then completely ghosting after you spend time putting it together.

For those of you who have been in the game for a while, how do you weed out the time-wasters from serious clients early on?

  • Do you charge a trip/diagnostic fee that goes towards the final bill?
  • Do you give a rough ballpark estimate over the phone before driving out?
  • Or do you just accept it as part of doing business?

Would love to hear how you protect your time without losing potential good jobs. Thanks!

How are you guys sharing your portfolios and service lists with local clients without a full website?

Hey everyone,

I see a lot of local contractors and handymen struggling with managing or paying for expensive website hosting just to show their contact info, basic services, and a few pictures of past work to local leads.

For those who don't want to deal with the hassle of WordPress or paid site builders, what are you using instead? Do you use simple single-link digital profiles or bio links to share in local Facebook groups or via QR codes on business cards?

Would love to know what simple alternatives are working best for everyone here to save on marketing!
