Got a new puppy yesterday. She’s only peed once all day.
Hi! We adopted a 14 week old mix yesterday. She’s doing great so far but it’s noon and she’s only peed once all day and it was inside. The woman that was fostering her said that she didn’t have many accidents but did mention that she was used to puppy pads. I’m a little worried she’s just conditioned to pee inside because of that. I googled it and it was suggested to put her back into her crate as soon as we come inside if she doesn’t pee. When she DID pee inside it was right after she came back in from a walk. So all day I’ve been walking her (decent length walks plus stops to the dog park). She has a lot of time to use the bathroom but doesn’t, then I’ll bring her in and put her in her crate after letting her drink water. She’ll spend about 30-45 minutes in the crate then we repeat the cycle. So basically 30-45 minutes on and off between outside and crate. I feel bad because it feels like a lot of crate time but I want to stop the indoor peeing now. Should I stick to this method? Any other suggestions?
Again, plenty of water intake and plenty of outdoor time. And she’s very playful and energetic. Doesn’t seem dehydrated at all. I really think she’s just holding it to go inside instead.
