Hi everyone,
I'm looking to join the Physics department here for research and am trying to find a group with a healthy work culture (minimal, non-harmful toxicity). I'm looking for honest, unfiltered feedback (DMs welcome if you'd prefer to stay anonymous!) about the different professors in the department-especially in Optics & Photonics and Condensed Matter. That said, I'd also appreciate recommendations for good/nice supervisors in other areas of the Physics department.
Mentorship style: Who is known for being a supportive mentor vs. a very high-pressure or strict supervisor?
Lab environment: Which labs have a healthy, collaborative, and kind culture, and which tend to be high-stress or have high student turnover?
Research focus: Who is deeply involved in day-to-day research/technical work, and who is more focused on administrative or funding-related responsibilities?
I highly value a supervisor who treats students with respect and upholds professional integrity. Any recommendations on whom to approach, or whom to be cautious about; would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any professors with concerning reputations that prospective students should be aware of, please feel free to share (anonymously or via DM).
Thanks in advance!
