An inside look at my 2026 book stats

An inside look at my 2026 book stats

As the creator of the RR Tower of Followers I am coming up on 500 and going on to level 11.

I thought some might find it interesting to see my progress since January of this year.

I update each Sunday night. A few calculations I pay special attention to are:

  1. The 10 week increase in views. If this does not increase, I am falling behind.
  2. Books per day. Just for fun and encouragement. The weeks views divided by my current chapter count gives me the total number of complete book equivalent books read each day that week.
  3. Rank Increase. Trying to figure out what impacts rank changes the most.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Rankled by the Ranking?

I have been studying RR data for the past two years and creating various reports to help myself understand how it all works.

At the same time I have noted an ongoing discussion about the RR ranking system, how it functions and its impact on readers and writers.

From a personal perspective with my own story I observe the following.

When I look the total database of 131,580 stories (the majority are not active) mine is 4643 from the top in followers (top 3.5% of all stories in the system)

If you take away all the Hiatus/Inactive/Dropped stories and go with only Completed, Ongoing and Stubbed there are 24,129 stories of which mine comes in at position 2252 (top 9.3%)

I have been happy with my slow growth in followers and have been encouraged to keep writing.

However, over the past two years I have consistently been ranked around position 6800 with a steady decline despite placing ads and gaining more average reads every week.

I have read some advice that says to discount the rankings as those only apply to stories moving up quickly and that, at my level and with the sort of story I am writing, ranking is irrelevant. The RR system, I am told, is designed to encourage rapid growth and in that sense, it works agains those who write over a longer period of time.

Any advice on these thoughts?

All your Begs in one Askit

Ive been writing my Low Fantasy on RR for almost two years. Its been a slow climb and its now sitting at: 130,000 views, 1300 pages, 491 followers and 91 favorites.

Stats are OK but in the end, it appears that only the 91 favorites are following along. I would love to hear something, anything from them but it's all quiet on the story writing front. I rarely use prechapter notes but today I put up the following.

Is it too much? I don't want to come off desperate but of late (complicated by life issues) I have felt like dropping the project for a while. When I did that briefly at the end of book two I lost half of my readers during that 2 month break.

Any thoughts?

Dear Reader,

After almost two years of writing the Journey to the Cor I find myself in an odd place. The internal stats tell me about 100 people are reading this story but others familiar with the way the internet works tell me its likely just bots scraping the content for other purposes.

If you are human reader and you are interested in seeing the story continue please let me know. There are few ways.

  1. A simple comment here like TFTC (Thanks for the chapter)
  2. A basic rating. When I see those numbers go up I know its real people and its encouraging.
  3. A review. The best possible way to encourage a writer is with a full review.
  4. An email if you are not a member of Royal Road. Address is - (removed)

If you like the story, please also point others to the link so they can also read along.

Thanks. I enjoy writing but right now I have a need to know there are people out there who want to read along.

With the Writeathon ongoing there is a bit of movement up the tower. Compared to last month there are 74 new stories at the testing level, 257 new ones at level one and 79 at level 2.

Dawn from RR has made a few changes to the Ranking system and you can read about that in the mega thread 'most useful' with the rules at the bottom.

This month also saw one of the Immortals stub and move off this particular list. Expecting to see more from them in the future. I might have to revisit the top Stubbed story list.
