Overall, planning to stick to southern Iceland with overnight stays in Reykjavik, north of Hella, and Kirkjubaejarklaustur (I’m not sure if I’ll get the pronunciation of that one haha).

Originally thought we’d do a day trip from our Hella lodging to Westman Islands, but it looks like it’s 4 hours round trip including the ferry. So now I’m thinking of an alternative Puffin viewing and maybe a casual day near Hvolsvollur. I’m thinking waterfalls, lava center and such. Then another day trip to Vik. It seems like half the distance.

Is there enough to do and what recommendations do you all have less than an hour from Hella/near Hvolsvollur? I have a 13 year old

Hi all. I’m planning a day trip from our Airbnb outside Hella. Trying to determine if we should bring the car via ferry to see more of the island more efficiently. Does it take a long time to unload cars? Was also considering a scooter or e-bike but I’m not interested in a guided tour. Any tips for me?
