Homelander’s ending doesn’t feel very in character to me (The Boys Season 5)

Basically, I could understand Homelander completely humiliating himself and offering to eat shit and suck Butcher’s dick if he had never felt pain or felt powerless before.

However, we know from other seasons of the boys and Diabolical that Homelander has a shit ton of experience with being physically and emotionally hurt/abused by others and being made to feel weak and helpless and humiliated, both as a child and as an adult throughout the events of the show.

We also know from these past and recent events in the universe’s timeline that Homelander hates being humiliated and being made to feel small above all else, and had a massive ego.

So the idea that someone that is no stranger to pain and suffering, and that also heavily values their pride and ego, would act the way Homelander did in the end doesn’t really seem consistent with his character, or really how most people/tyrants/dictators act when they are on the verge of death in a similar situation.

I feel like it would’ve made more sense for Homelander’s character if they had him kill himself, or go berserk and attack Butcher only to be annihilated by him, or had him throwing around a bunch of random slurs and insults at butcher out of spite, or had him get depressed and just accept being killed rather than live on as a normal human. Literally almost anything else would’ve fit Homelander’s character more.
