Question about "Hallway Lights" scene test for TVs
I've always been curious about this: as I understand it, the Hallway Lights scene is mastered such that the brightest lights should emit 1950nits.
For the latest generations of OLED that have 2/10% windows well in excess of 2000nits, AND a relatively accurate EOTF curve, AND per pixel brightness control, I naively would expect the scene to display the encoded levels of brightness in those pixels.
Is there a reason why this isn't the case? The only plausible reason I can come up with is the measurement devices aren't able to be that specific down to potentially very small absolute window sizes.
If that's the case, is there a potential bias in the Real Scene tests, where larger TVs could report higher numbers because the measurement device is picking up a more "zoomed in" part of the scene?
