Help setting up my first walstad tank
Hi all. I plan to set up my first Walstad tank very soon! I wanted to put more emphasis on it being very natural, so I am adding a couple of extra things. I plan on keeping only shrimp and maybe snails. This tank will have pool filter sand, organic Miracle-Gro potting soil, driftwood, decorative rocks, crushed coral, lava rock, and various live plants.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for setting up that would prevent the soil from possibly floating or turning the water muddy. Should I waterlog it before adding a sand cap? Additionally, the pool filter sand I bought claims to be “anti-algae”. Should I rinse it just in case the manufacturer applied a solution to it to help prevent algae?
Also, if anyone has any general tips, I would be happy to hear them :)
