I would like to save my old entrance wood door in a late 1800s cottage if possible. I hired a small contractor to do a variety of repairs including patch and re-paint the long vertical crack in an old entrance door. The crack is approximately 2 ft. long and was wide enough to show daylight. After his repair, I still see the crack through the new paint. He stopped communicating over various project scope issues and refused to confirm if he applied any patching material over my previous handyman repair.
Should it be possible to patch, sand, and re-paint the door so that the crack is barely visible or not at all? Or, did this contractor do the best that could be done with a crack this severe?
Is the crack still severe enough that I should move to a full door replacement?
