Boss wants to pay from the scheduled flight time rather than when I get to the airport
Hi all,
I work at a small company <10 people There's been a fair bit of travel for interstate and even international work in my time here over the last year and a half. Generally, until recently, I was paid from when I arrived at the airport, and until I exited security at the destination airport
But after getting back from my last trip to Melbourne my boss only paid me from.the time the flight was scheduled, rather than when I got to the airport.
I questioned the accounting lady and she said the boss had stepped in and denied the first pay she had put in with the normal method, and I had to talk to him for more information.
I spoke with him and apparently he thought we only get paid from.the flight time, and claimed he was going to put it in writing to alleviate any confusion (I asked coworkers and accounting lady and my manager and they all said there was no confusion.
I'm most annoyed that he's done this after I've done the work.
The difference in pay wasn't even that big, it's more the principle.
I thought that because I'm waiting for a flight (which in this case was a 6am flight, I arrived at 4:30) It would count as work time? I usually travel less than an hour to jobs here in Sydney, average probably half an hour. It took about 25 minutes from my home to the airport...
Is there anything specified about this? Does this sound reasonable to people? I'm not happy with it.
Sorry for the poorly written post!
Update:
I rang fair work and gave as much information as I could, they said it's up to the employer as the award is "unclear" about when I should be paid
