"Overplayed" Music - Why does that affect whether people listen to it or not?
I have a lot of friends that listen to a good amount of music. And keep in mind I wouldn't apply what i'm about to say to just them, but most music listeners. I find that a lot of them will listen to popular music, and for about the first week, it will be a "banger" by their standards. But as soon as it peaks on the Billboards Top 100 or becomes one of those songs that you hear a lot (restaurants, random mixes), they stop listening to it because it is "overplayed", and I could see this being reasonable if you got tired of hearing the song. But I find that this isn't even their reason, its just too popular. For example, if you were to play the song, they would say its overplayed, but if you forced them to listen to the rest of it, they would do it happily after a little bit. I think people seem to dislike the idea that their music is mainstream, and it makes them sad that it isn't "their music". I find this pretty ludicrous. If music is overplayed, isn't it good? If this is the case, why not listen to it more? Thoughts anyone?
