UK/Scotland self-employed but feels more like employed? Not sure what my rights are

Hi, I’m looking for some advice about my job situation in the UK/Scotland

I work in flooring (mainly wood flooring installs like herringbone, chevron, stairs etc). I’ve been in trades since I was about 19 and I’m 23 now.

I’m classed as self-employed but I’m starting to think it might not actually be genuine self-employment.

Basically:

I mainly work for one company

I’m told when to work and what jobs to do

I don’t really get a say in hours or schedule

I’m paid hourly (£14.50)

No holiday pay or sick pay

I just turn up and do the work as told

Tools/materials are sometimes missing and I’m still expected to get on with it

There’s no proper contract, just told I’m a subcontractor

It’s a very small company (just a couple of workers + the boss + sometimes another subcontractor).

I’m just wondering:

does this sound like false self-employment?

is it worth speaking to HMRC or about it?

what would actually happen if I did?

could anything change like holiday pay if it was wrong?

Not trying to cause issues, just trying to understand where I stand because it doesn’t really feel like normal self-employed work.

Any advice appreciated.
