does anyone actually finish a product before opening a backup

trying to figure out if i have unusually chaotic shelf habits or if this is just beauty culture

i have a rule about finishing something before cracking open the backup. in theory. in practice i get halfway through a moisturizer and convince myself its "close enough" to start the new one.

the reality from talking to friends seems closer to 60-70% before something gets rotated out.

what is your honest finishing rate before you replace something? do you actually empty the bottle or is mostly used close enough?

how do you decide a product is "pannable" vs one youre saving for something

Watching this sub for a while, I notice some products get pulled out for active panning and others get described as "saving for [special occasion / specific outfit / vacation / etc]." The saving move feels like the start of a never-finishing arc.

What tips a product from "saving" into "actively panning" for you? Is it a number of months sitting unused? Hitting a certain product count? Realizing a brand changed the formula? Something else?
