Just think about it: Jack is two years older than Lily, and his mom is practically the same height as Min (if not a bit taller), yet he ended up shorter than his younger sister—Jack's legs are basically half the length of Lily's. You’d have to really stretch to justify that, but the truth is, when it comes to height, genetics were pretty harsh on Jack 🥀.

These posts are circulating online; it looks like the Paramount-Warner merger is finally going to happen. Looking at the big picture, it’s painful to realize that Wylde Pak is highly likely to be sidelined—or, in a worst-case scenario, cancelled—given the state the companies will be in post-merger. They’ll be prioritizing profits to recoup losses and cutting staff to reduce costs, and I don't think they’ll care about animated IPs that are just finding their footing. It’s a real shame; I just hope that—by some miracle—they take this series, which showed so much potential, into consideration.

This fan story is based on the source material and details from the series; it aims to explain how the peculiar family we love came to be.

The story begins in 2010, when an indie rock band was touring Canada and the United States. During the tour, the band's guitarist, William Wylde, met a unique young woman named Alice Kelly, who was just starting her career as a documentary filmmaker focusing on rock bands. What began as a documentary project quickly blossomed into a romance that seemed destined to lead to a family; the couple was even expecting a son. Unfortunately, their conflicting interests—Will was busy with his band, while Alice was seeking her next documentary project—made that goal impossible. Unable to sustain the relationship, they decided to part ways amicably, agreeing that the mother would keep custody of their son while the father would spend summers with him to ensure they stayed in touch. A year later, in 2011, William received both good and bad news. The good news was that he had met a woman named Min-Ju Pak at one of his band's concerts and felt an immediate connection. The bad news was that his band was in decline, and his bandmates were going their separate ways. Despite this, his relationship with Min-Ju progressed rapidly; he even supported her in her legal career, though she was struggling due to a string of lost cases. Their relationship proved to be genuine, and when they found out they were expecting a daughter, William—determined not to repeat the mistakes he had made with his previous partner and son—decided to settle down and marry Min. With her mother's blessing, they got engaged in 2012 and bought a house in a place called Canyon Valley, California. In early 2013, their daughter—who bore a striking resemblance to both her mother and grandmother—was born; they named her Lily. However, life wasn't all sunshine and roses: Min decided to give up her legal career because it wasn't working out, and Will, working as a traveling guitarist, wasn't earning enough to pay the bills in full and support her daughter. The situation seemed critical until one day, when Min took a closer look at the city, she noticed a wide variety of pets and animals—and the absence of any pet grooming salon. Leveraging her innate talent for handling animals, and with Will's help and the last of her savings, she obtained a license and advertised the business throughout the city, the "Wylde Pak: Groom & Board," in their home. No one showed up on the first day, nor the second or third; it seemed like yet another inevitable failure—until a woman and her husband arrived with an animal. It wasn't a dog, though—it was an alpaca—and they were willing to pay well to have its fleece groomed. Out of desperation, the couple agreed; despite knowing nothing about such animals, they decided to learn on the job. When they finished and returned the animal, the woman was delighted with the results, and word of the business began to spread throughout Cannon Valley. As the days went by, more clients arrived—some with common pets like dogs, others with truly peculiar ones. Despite the complications and hectic days, they were making it work; the business was bearing fruit, finally allowing them to pay off their mortgage and even spend more time with their daughter, Lily, who had mostly been in her grandmother's care. Ultimately, after a very difficult year, they achieved emotional and financial stability. Although they still had much to learn about caring for various animals—and raising their daughter, who was just approaching her first birthday—they knew they would face any hardship together as a family. With the arrival of each summer week or the occasional unexpected visit, the Wylde Pak's welcomed Jack—the son Will had with Alice. Although Min was initially taken aback by the boy—since he wasn't hers, but rather the child of her ex—she gradually grew fond of him, coming to treat him like just another member of the family. And so the routine went: visits, exotic animals, learning the ropes of parenthood, building the salon's reputation, and so on. Years passed smoothly until the summer of 2024; after an unsuccessful attempt to relocate the salon, their daughter acquired a camper that allowed them to set up the business right near their home. Everything seemed wonderful—it looked like the "perfect summer"—until they received a surprise call from Alice with unexpected news: her son Jack would be staying with them for the entire summer. This took the Wylde Pak by surprise, but little did they know that Jack’s arrival would change their family dynamic forever, helping them reclaim lost moments and grow closer as a family.

Lately, I’ve been catching up on Peanuts content—like the second season of Camp Snoopy, which was a gem and even more fun than the first—and this special. To be honest, I had my doubts about this one at first; the animation felt a bit odd because it didn't match the style of earlier Apple TV specials like A Summer Musical, resembling The Snoopy Show instead. However, after watching it, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike recent specials that focused heavily on emotional moments and character development, this one felt... simple and gentle. That’s exactly where its charm lies; it was executed in a way that makes it a pleasant, breezy watch. The plot about getting the doghouse back felt like watching a quick 11-minute animated episode, even though it actually ran for 30 minutes (well, that’s how it felt to me, since the time just flew by). The interactions between Charlie Brown and Snoopy were truly delightful. As for the animation—which initially seemed like a drawback for not matching the older specials—it actually ended up enhancing that simplicity, helping it stand out from the rest of Apple TV’s Peanuts lineup. It’s the perfect special to watch on an afternoon, lounging in a chair with a cold drink.

If you look closely at the details in the Wylde-Pak household, you’ll spot this photograph. What’s interesting is that the people in the picture are unidentified—though, based on the details, you can make out Lily and Min-Ju. My own speculation is that these individuals might be relatives of the Pak family—specifically, perhaps, relatives of Halmoni’s sister, such as a distant cousin. I’m ruling out Wylde family members because Will appears to be an only child, and I’m also ruling out Anusha or Debs, as there are no distinguishing features to suggest it’s them. Honestly, noticing these details makes me want to look at their world all over again to hunt for those kinds of curious little things.

These characters—the Wendlesons—appeared in the show's "bibles" (specifically the pilot bible and the 2023 version). For those unable to read the documents themselves: the Wendlesons were essentially the antithesis of the Wylde Pak (you can even spot similarities in their gender and name swaps) and served as the protagonists' rivals and neighbors. What I find interesting is that they were apparently slated for a more active role in the series; the bibles even outline an episode where they compete to see who is the biggest TikToker (literally). The section on them also details their relationship with the Wylde Pak. It seems the idea of incorporating school-life concepts involving Jack and Lily had been in the works for a while, given how Lenny and Janie (that family's counterparts to Jack and Lily) were intended to interact with our main characters. It makes me wonder why they were scrapped despite appearing in the final stages of the pilot bible and the early stages of official pre-production. It could have been a matter of time constraints—since the series consists of 26 episodes—or a desire to avoid inconsistencies with the main plot (which was set during the summer) and to prevent overcrowding the episode count. Another question I have is whether the production team ever sketched them using the series' current character designs; we may never know. I can also speculate that if Wylde Pak were to be renewed for a hypothetical third season, there is a strong chance these characters would be added to the show. Personally, I think it would be interesting to see them appear in the future.

I was working through the Event Hub and reached the Devil's Run chapter—an event I was actually finding quite entertaining thanks to the 100-position format and the million-dollar prize. However, things went south starting with the third chapter of the Honda NSX event. I recall not finishing it back when it first ran due to a lack of time—I used to focus on collecting cars rather than grinding events—but revisiting it now, I find it to be the most unfair event I’ve ever played. Compared to previous events, the Honda NSX feels like it secretly hates you; upgrading it barely boosts your PR (even when upgrading the speed category), and it’s not particularly fast compared to earlier cars like the Spyder or the Diablo. The PR requirements to progress are absurd given how slowly the car improves, and in the event market, most of the parts I need cost Gold (I almost never saw engines or turbos available for Credits, which was incredibly frustrating when trying to refresh the shop). Honestly, I don't get what the deal is with this event; even the new Tushek event currently running is more accessible than the Devil's Run NSX event. To top it all off, it looks like you don't even get the million-dollar cash prize if you manage to finish it. Seriously, what an infuriating event.
