So we are trying to have our deck rebuilt with roof and screen. Does anyone have a good suggestion for handling this overlapping roof situation?

One contractor wanted to trim part of the small existing roof (cirled in red) and continue the wall up to the new deck roof (ledger board/roof is teal).

Is this a good or bad idea? Are there other options? I'm not sure I want the deck builder cutting an existing roof.
