Worth a try - black iced tea

Worth a try - black iced tea

So I don't know how much of an impact this is actually having with the past couple days, my after meal numbers have always been pretty easy control this pregnancy but it's still early. My fasting has always been right around the 90s some days are great some days are a little bit high typically nothing over about 105.

I switched from drinking zero sodas to unsweet tea, and I didn't think anything of it until my fasting was about 10 points lower the next day in the low 80s.

I figured it was a fluke, didn't attribute to anything else since my diet hadn't really changed and just chalk it up to sleep or stress or something.

Decided to Google it today just to see if that was the only thing that changed and it turns out that according to Dr. Google it has been shown to improve after meal numbers.

There were a lot of articles of varied credibility, but I figured it's worth the shot of sharing it with you all in case someone else could benefit. Just be aware that of course it does have caffeine, but I'm not particularly concerned about that as I cut out other caffeine sources when I started switching it out during meals.

FYI I ended up refilling strips today and truemetrix has a recall on the devices as they may be inaccurate at super high values and/or error out

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/risks-using-true-metrix-blood-glucose-monitoring-systems-trividia-health-fda-safety-communication

Nothing dangerous using the device as far as being shocked or anything, but readings may be inaccurate. The recommendation from my pharmacist is to call OB and get a whole brand filled.

Recommendations for Patients using TRUE METRIX Meters and their Caregivers
All TRUE METRIX users should seek an alternative method for testing their blood glucose, if possible, until corrected meters become available. Users should continue testing their blood glucose and should not stop using their TRUE METRIX meter until they have an alternative available for
- It is especially important for users at highest risk, such as those who rely on intensive insulin therapy, sulfonylureas, or who have frequent hyper- or hypo- glycemic events, to transition to an alternative glucose monitoring system.

Users who continue to use a TRUE METRIX device prior to switching to an alternative method should be aware that an E-5 Error Code may mean that they are having a very high glucose (>600 mg/dL) event or that they have a test strip error, in which case their blood glucose may be normal or may be dangerously low or high. **Any user receiving an E-5 Error Code while experiencing symptoms of low or high blood glucose should immediately contact their health care provider for help in determining appropriate treatment options.**

Be aware that delayed recognition of extremely low or high blood glucose levels could increase the risk of serious health complications or delays in treatment.
Report any problems or complications with your TRUE METRIX Meter to the FDA and to Trividia Health.

Just in case anyone else was looking for a Mother’s Day drink with bubbles that scratches the soda itch, I have found pibb xtra zero tastes really good!

My husband even said he likes the taste slightly better than regular pibb (sacrilege) but I find it to be more or less the same taste wise.

I’m not huge on Aspartame but in moderation 10/10.

I just wanted to share my day 2 of diagnosis feelings and how it seems ok. TL;DR doing ok with meal #1 and feeling confident on snacks and such. Hopefully the bubble of hope holds.

Last pregnancy I had some real big feelings about the diagnosis and spent time crying and grieving the pregnancy that I had pictured.

I ended up being diet controlled, but having an induction a little bit early due to baby size and rising blood pressure (blood pressure being the primary reason).

Baby was healthy, my blood pressure went a little bit wonky for a while, I ended up having my gallbladder removed post pregnancy which meant I also got a diagnosis of preeclampsia retroactively. (Fun right?)

I was holding out hope that I wouldn’t get a diagnosis for this pregnancy, but sure enough I’m right back where I was for my first. The funniest thing to me is my numbers are almost exactly the same as my 3hr for my first.

Because I’ve done this before, it didn’t feel as daunting. I definitely teared up a little bit, but no actual tears or a breakdown. I got my supplies reread the directions and started testing to remind myself what it felt like to get into the habit.

I use an app which makes everything feel a lot more manageable (GD tracker) and I started out this morning with a pretty decent fasting and decided that I was going to start with a test meal. Chick fil a hash brown wrap with a Coke Zero (and hashbrowns on the side because I was feeling salty). I don’t recommend this…but I also wanted to see early on if this sort of meal was even possible in the future.

140 exactly at 1 hr 5 mins (Oop) 101 at 2 hours. Last diagnosis I tested at two hours only if my one hour was borderline or high just to make sure that I was going back down.

I’m not a huge snacker, so I’m not as worried about midday snacks, or anything like that. I do have some Chobani yogurt shakes that are right where they need to be for a lighter breakfast or snack.

I’m feeling better about food choices moving forward because I already have an idea of what will spike me this pregnancy and how to test while keeping baby safe. I honestly expected to feel like the world is crashing down on me again and I am pleasantly surprised at least so far that it doesn’t feel that way.

The only weird thing about this is my child (almost 3) he’s excited about my testing equipment and is now saying he wants to see me bleed 🙄 hopefully that stops before the next 12 weeks or so.
