Boycott The Cove

Picture this: You're a parent dropping off your pride and joy at UVic, nervous that your baby is finally spreading their wings and leaving the nest, far from home, in a completely new environment. You trust that they will make the right choices, stay safe, and find themselves along the way.

After living in residence for a month, you check in on them to see how they're doing.

"Everything's great!" they say, leaving out what they know would worry you.

"How is the food?" you ask, knowing they have a gluten and dairy allergy.

*silence*

To your surprise, your child tells you that they have not gone more than 4 DAYS without getting poisoned at least once, and that everyday feels like preparing for war and starvation.

  1. All the "so called" gluten free and dairy free options ARENT EVEN GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE. Tell me why I've been eating the fries every single day since I've been here, feeling awful, not knowing why i'm sick, TO FIND OUT THEY'RE FRIED IN THE SAME FRYER AS THE ONION RINGS. Nice!😊
  2. When asking the staff about allergies, they roll their eyes and ask you if you have "severe celiac"... whatever that is. For reference, celiac does not come in different severities, it all causes the same damage. But hey, not even their fault since management has so clearly not made an effort to inform them about standard food safety protocols🥹🚬.
  3. Oh look! They offer gluten free bread substitutes for the burgers and sandwiches! Oh but not too fast! They charge you and ADDITIONAL 2$ on top of the fact it's half the size of the regular bread, and also deteriorates at the same speed as campus security appears on Wally Wednesday.

Of course this is the situation in most food establishments, but when there are so many students with food restrictions on campus, and you promote how "inclusive" you are about options, you deserve to be shunned.

Anyways, come to Wally Wednesday and follow them @ uvicwallywednesday on insta🐺🤘

Robert Wallace Dorm Advice

Hey everyone!

I'm moving into Robert Wallace in a couple of weeks and have a few questions about the dorms. I am on the 4th floor if this helps.

  1. Do all the rooms in Wallace have a blue painted wall? Are there other colours as well?
  2. Do all the beds have built-in drawers, or do some rooms only come with a basic bed frame?
  3. Are the curtains detachable, or is there a way to cover them with my own?
  4. I've heard we cannot raise the beds; is this a strict rule or something I could look into once I'm there?
  5. If anyone could describe what social life looks like in the building i would be very appreciative!

Thank you so much in advance!
