Teachers of Reddit, I need advice.

I am seriously considering either moving schools/classrooms or going into a new career altogether. I no longer feel like a teacher, I feel like a drill, sergeant/babysitter. I have amazing coworkers who have become my friends over the past seven or so years. I am finishing up year nine of my career.

The district that hired me had hired me at the 11th hour and it looks like when I go onto OLAS “writing sample“ is needed for most of the jobs that I am qualified for. But I don’t ever remember a “writing sample” being brought up in any of my masters classes. Or maybe I just don’t remember. Is there anyone that can give me advice on what I could do for a writing sample?

On the other side of the coin, I have reached a point where I just can’t handle student behaviors anymore. Almost everyone tells need to ignore the bad kid or kick them out when reached your limit. I’ve also been told to respond and try not to wear my heart on my sleeve, the problem is I’m a nice person and I don’t have it in me to be the person that I need to be to keep these kids disciplined. Not every child in my classroom , but the ones that do do not have supportive parents. And my boss Band-Aids on any behavior situations. Nothing ever happens from the right ups that I do, and no matter what I try to improve student behavior and stop them from being nasty to me or , it never works.

I don’t know if I can do this career anymore. So my other question is, what is another possible career that I could have that uses many of the same skills and qualifications that I’ve had from being a teacher and that could still pay me relatively well?

Please help me at this crossroads in my life. I need all the help and advice that I can get.
