Majestic China discovery set
I got the D’Annam Majestic China discovery set and I’ve tried a couple of the scents so far.
Mooncake: At first spray, it’s honey, salt, and layers of herbal/nutty/slightly medicinal smell. There’s a lot going on and I can’t pick out all the notes. It settles into a honey with a noticeable herbal smell kind of like camphor or eucalyptus. I like it, but I don’t think it’s a warm weather scent for me. The medicinal note makes me think it would be better balanced in colder weather.
Chinese Calligraphy: Preface by saying that to me, Diptique’s L’Eau Papier smells like straight, strong fountain pen ink, and it might make more sense when I say that this is what I wanted L’Eau Papier to smell like. There’s still ink, but it’s not punching me in the nose. I get notes of paper, powdery sweetness, and faint coffee along with the ink. This might be my favourite of the samples.
I suspect that Pomelo Oolong might be the only other one I can try in our current really hot weather, so I might wait on testing Chinese Princess, Silk Road and Spring Festival until it’s cooler and I can give them a fairer shot.
