A.M runners. How do you feel the rest of your day? Work days and non work days.
For some context I work Monday - Thursday 7am to 6pm. 32male 6ft 190lbs running for about 3 years. Averaging 11-13 min miles mostly easy pace. Anywhere from 15 to 25MPW.
During my work days I get up about 4ish, then sleep by 10pm. I Run normally 3-4 miles. Then I sit at a desk for my job, so on my two 15 min breaks i usually walk. Hour lunch I just eat and chill, occasionally I’ll do a 10 min walk.
Work days I’m able to feeling rested and structured because I’m sitting for the vast majority of my day. After work, I can eat, cold plunge and chill. I’ll even do a strength session 2 or 3 times during the week.
No issues feeling like I’m recovering well. Work is relaxed environment, and slow paced.
BUT on my days off, I get up about 6am run my usual 3/4 miles, sometimes I’ll hit a 5/6 for a longer run. Usually in bed asleep for 10-10:30.
Problem is when I have actual things to do later in the day. Errands, chores and basic things that involve me standing walking and sometimes a for run bike ride with my wife. I struggle pretty hard to keep myself out of the “fight or flight” mode and feel really tired and wore out by and in the afternoons.
My Garmin puts my stress higher (50ish) vs (25ish on work days) and my resting heart rate is usually 68-70 vs my normally 62-66 during work days depending on if I do a tempo.
How do you guys handle physical work and your running habit? Do you feel tired by the afternoons?
I usually want to crash out at work by 4. Power through and ready for bed by 8:30 or 9.
How much do you run? And whatcha feeling like through your days at work and days off? Any difference in energy and recovery?
