Feeling really mentally beaten down.

Background: (45F) Injury 3/20/26 after colliding with my son. Cast for 4 weeks, then into a boot NWB for 8 more. First ortho refers to specialist who immediately finds that first guy just totally missed a bad LF which was clear on the MRI.

Fusion 7/2/26, 2 plates & 7 screws. The ortho said when he put a spreader in just to get the full extent of the damage in person that my foot pretty much "fell apart". 3 weeks in post-surgical splint, 3 weeks in a cast. Stitches out yesterday and into a boot again. Begin very minimal PWB now. Come back in 1 month, hopefully release for PT at that time. Surgeon expects 3 months in the boot.

I have lupus and poor circulation in my hands and feet. And with the delayed diagnosis and treatment the surgeon has said this will be an ultra marathon, not even just a marathon, recovery. The swelling even now, 6 weeks post-op, is nuts.

I feel like I'm never going to get better. I feel like I'm never going to stop being in pain. I don't know if I'll ever walk normally or wear high heels again.

I'm just really struggling mentally right now.

I don't like that we're all in this club, but I'm glad there are people to talk to who understand.

12hr road trip 5 days post-op?

Hello all!

Surgery scheduled for July 3rd (thinking homerun fixation).

My family is asking me if I'll be up for a 12hr road trip 5 days later, lying down in the back across the bench seating.

Personally, I've never had lisfranc surgery, but this doesn't feel very realistic. I'm not sure how bad the pain and swelling would be, plus I can't imagine it's a good idea to be away from home for so long immediately after surgery due to any unforseen complications.

If I ask my surgeon what are the chances he says absolutely not?

I can tell my family no a million times but they'll just tell me how we can make it work blah blah blah and guilt trip me or throw adult tantrums about it, but if the surgeon himself says "F No!", they'd respect that.

I'm honestly nervous enough, and this just isn't making things any better.

Thank you so much for any help and insight you can provide!
