Do medical bills or hardship actually change what the IRS will accept

got hit with a massive IRS bill from couple years ago and right after that happened i had a medical emergency that wiped me off completely. i keep hearing that IRS has hardship programs to lower what you owe but everytime i look into the guidelines it feels like a trap to me my monthly expenses are insane rn but they dont give a crap about huge medical debts to they?? they just look at your gross income and if on paper income looks okay to them you get standard monthly bills you cant afford.. is there hope with IRS or am i wasting my time? Frustrated as hell so lmk if i can hire someone because i really cannot afford addin another monthly payment plan to the mix

My tax preparer disappeared and left me with a mess. Who do I even go to now?

so ive been getting help of a local guy to do my taxes for the last 3 years. everything was fine until last month when i got a notice from the IRS saying i owe around 12k in back taxes and penalties due to some unfiled schedules from 2022. been calling/emailing him for weeks now. Phone goes straight to voicemail, office door is locked... pretty sure he ghosted me now im sitting here with an IRS deadline in 30 days and zero clue on what to do. I dont even know where to start or how to fix this without getting destroyed by interest. any advice on who should i go to?
