Any IHG travelers?

We try to choose IHG hotels when they’re in good locations. Outside of the US we’ve been pleasantly surprised with their vegan options at breakfast. Indigo hotels in Helsinki, London, Bath. Holiday Inns in Osaka and London, and the IC Strings in Tokyo. That last was a dream!

What I’m wondering is, was my impression of ICs too favorably influenced by Tokyo? We’re at the IC Budapest at the moment, and the buffet is huge, yes, but not at all Vegan Friendly. There’s fruit, muesli, and a few cold veggies. The labels are hit or miss so I’m not sure about the bread. The hot food basically has mushrooms and potatoes. Plant milk is available, by request so you have to ask. (Asking is a challenge because this place is crazy packed!)

We’ve booked the IC in Warsaw later this year and I’m wondering what the will be like? Maybe we should stick to Indigos?

ÖBB Railjet trains !!vegan options!!

Taking a short hop to Budapest from Vienna and just browsed the menu onboard. Almost wish I hadn’t eaten already! The options are plentiful, and sound amazing. Won’t actually be trying, but thought I’d mention, they DO feed the vegans :-)

Vegan fine dining in Vienna

It comes as no surprise that Restaurant JOLA in Vienna, with it’s Michelin Star, was on of the best meals I’ve had as a vegan. I just want to recommend it for perhaps another less obvious reason.

We travel ‘one bag’ style for a few weeks at a time. I did my best this trip knowing we had a reservation, but was concerned I wouldn’t feel dressed well enough. (Linen pants, knit shirt with a scarf, but… black sneakers… brought sandals but it’s been freezing here!) We’ve been to other fine restaurants where this was certainly the vibe. Young, hip people who absolutely noticed.

But JOLA was small, elegant in a comfortable way. The servers were warm and friendly. Perfectly attentive in every way without hovering. This was my perfect dining experience.

The food was beautiful, intriguing and delicious. Served at a pace that allows you enjoy. There were roughly 20 small plates in total served over 8 courses (or so). We left full, but not bursting or miserable.

Restaurant JOLA gets all the stars from me!
