At this point, I’m just laughing. I’m grading statistics papers, which are really pretty low level. They just have to get a sample of something and do a hypothesis test. They have to display the data correctly and describe their sampling methods, and share the results. Nothing earth shattering.

I just graded a paper where I was pretty confused because they didn’t provide all of the data they would need in order to test their claim. Basically, they were looking at a correlation and they only gave me one set of data. But I started to enter that data into my calculator so that I could test it and… Wow. It really looked familiar. It was my data from an assignment. I gave them earlier in the year. It didn’t even have the same number of data values they were required to have for the paper. The student didn’t even bother to make up an extra 10 data values.

Sigh.
