hello reddit philosophers

I recently finished simulacra and simulation and learned that the contents did not really grapple with the questions I was looking for answers to at the start of the text. I am interested in the idea/dialectic of being abstracted from the Real as a people/culture. I’ll try to use an allegory in an effort to explain this, my apologies in advance. Consider how one uses a microscope. If the “Real” is the object being observed, the many lenses within the microscope are the various structures, systems, medias, etc. that get between us and the source. This interest brought me to the allegory of the cave which I enjoyed learning about. hearing later of the concept of the simulacra I thought this would be in line with my philosophical interests but the book did not really align with me. I learned later on through secondary sources that you don’t want to start into JB with this book, but after reading S&S i have little interest into reading more of his work. That being said, does anyone have any better suggestions to philosophical ideas that deal with what I have described? Tried posting this to the philosophy reddit but it got axed. I know this is pretty niche since you would need a pretty good understanding of philosophy but would love any suggestions, even outside of philosophy
