Too many Ethnic Groups?
In the Horn of Africa there are over 90 ethnic groups scattered across 3 countries. Am I the only one that thinks this is insane. You look at all the most peaceful and prosperous regions in history and no matter how genetically different they are they all go under 1 group of people.
Look at China, the overwhelming majority are Han but they are nowhere near the same genetically. In France there’s a whole genetic spectrum of Celtic to Germanic Ancestry that shifts but they all identify as French and don’t have any subgroups to go by. Even a country so close to us like Egypt had a north south Gradient but still had no different ethnic Groups forming.
Eritrea and we can even include most of Ethiopia under that bracket are all formed from the same pastorial Neolithic Cushitic base and around 20% South Semitic ancestry yet there’s so many different ethnic groups that all speak different languages, some not even from the same language family. There are far more countries out there which are genetically more diverse than most of the horn yet are all cohesive under 1 identity.
By no means am I implying just getting rid of ethnic groups but shouldn’t assimilation be promoted?
Look at Ethiopia, they’re in an all out ethnic tribal battle ground, from the Tigray war to Oromo taking control and a Fano advance. Even Somalia, they’re supposed to be this ethnically homogeneous country yet they’re constantly fighting over their Qabil. Is this not embarrassing? It feels so primitive.
