I have a one-year-old female Malamute who started her spring shedding. However she also seems to be shedding her top coat, especially around her neck/shoulder area. Is that normal?
It's not only a few hairs, but entire tuffs come out if you pull gently.
I never had this happen to my other mal, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

I've been continuously discarding and feeding a sourdough starter that I started on July 19th, but other than the false rise at the start, it hasn't risen at all.
I've been feeding it 1:1:1 every 24h, it has a lot of tiny bubbles on the side and a few big ones, but there's not a lot on the top. It smells like ripe bananas with a hint of "funk". Also, the temperature is not an issue, nor is the water.
I know it can take weeks for a new starter to get established and even longer for one with only AP. However, my seemingly lack of progress compared to other's AP starter is really discouraging.
If there's anyone who has some advice please spare me some! I really don't want to restart...
My girl recently turned 1 and had a weigh-in at the vet recently. She's around 53kg or 116 lbs which is quite a bit more than the breed standard. But I don't think that she is overweight: she is very active, eats normally, and doesn't feel particularly pudgy. However, she does have a lot of loose skin, but I think that's for fighting/playing.
I also had another male before that, who weighed 140 lbs.
Am I just blind like a grandma feeding her grandchild or did I only get the ones that are exceptionally huge?
(P. S. I feel like it's important to mention that she was the runt of her litter.)
