Advise needed regarding ICU nurses drama
IM resident in ICU. Yesterday RN wanted sedation for a delirious old lady. I was assessing her from time to time as it seemed that she was getting better. When I went in the room to see her, nurse grabbed me from arm and said to stay and see patient’s behavior. I found it aggressive and confronted her that this behaviour wasn’t welcome. I did it calmly.
Now today, another nurse wanted me to order benzodiazepines for sedation when 2 drips for sedation were already running. I asked to just go up on existing drips. Now she came to praise another resident in front of me how she doesn’t have to fight for orders with her.
I am so sick of this passive aggressive behavior and feel like I am working in a very hostile work environment. I’ll appreciate any advice on how to survive. At this point it feels like I have a reputation that I am difficult to work with. I have to think twice before ordering sth, I can’t just do what nurse says
