Hi,

For various reason I'm gonna switch to a dumbphone this summer (very dumb, not an hybrid one, a T9 that just texts and calls). So no beeper (i think i'll keep it on my laptop but not sure yet). I want to get rid of pointless text but fear social exclusion of hang out with people I just met/ big groups (bests friends will be there no matter what) but Other subject ...

So I will have to warn my friends that I will not have access to Insta DMs, how ? I will update my PP which is the 1st thing you watch when you have a DM. And bio to explain (optional).

But this can give me an idea since this topic became tendency (niche but still, even if I started interesting myself in the topic 2 year ago).

If we choose a Common PP we could start a movement even outside of this sub, reaching people that never heard of digital minimalism ( and probably apply it wo even knowing it).

They (people who were following trends) did this a few times for different political/environmental purposes. So why not us ? we can have our proper movement symbol.

I want being offline become a cool thing.

So i thought a PP with just somethin a little poetic like :

This summer, don’t watch it. Just live it. Offline Summer 2026.

or more practical :

See you IRL this summer, I’m offline

or ironic :

Closed for vacation --> return September 1st 2026

This one is more for the bio than the PP (maybe just saying offline in the PP + this bio is good)

I want to avoid something that felt preachy ( like "get the f... out of your phone, this summer", even if some people like my little brother deserve it)

More poetic or more pragmatic is better. I want to make people to make think by themself, not lecture them.

Pls don't be defeatist (ik reddit enough now), we can do that even if we failed it's good ...

What are you thoughts suggestion on this ? any better sentences will be welcome. and also I didn't think of the background and style, others things yet. Any ideas?

I went to an exchange in USA and most of people at Uni just look at their phones alone. At cafeteria, most friends groups just watch their own phone and throw sentence sometimes.

While I talk to my roommate (american) he is just saying "hmm" or "what did you say?" while scrolling on his phone. Same with my other roommate (american also). Am I with the "wrongs persons" or it is just the culture here ?

Actually most people who came talk to me are over 30 (PS : i love small talk with strangers, we should introduce that in Europe). No young person came to speak to me to do small talk.

So genuine question, Is it the culture here ? only in Louisiana or in the whole country ? Very surprised (grew up where it's very impolite to do that)
